Any club member may enter Licentiate.
For other awards you must be an individual member of PSNZ.
At present the criteria for Licentiate and Associateship is to have diversity in the panel. The A is assessed to a higher standard than the L.
Portfolios can be submitted on a theme but should still demonstrate diversity.
For example this could include, different lens choice, depth of field control, shutter speed control, viewpoints, close up/ macro. B&W or Colour - (suggest not mixed in same panel unless well thought out and balanced).
Occasionally panels for the A are received where a theme is very tight but the standard of photography and creativity is so high the photographer has clearly demonstrated an exceptional talent and knowledge in photography.
The Fellowship is certainly very specialised, more like a thesis, where the story, innovation, art etc has a higher weighting than the technical as this has already been assessed in the A.
One image that is slightly off WILL affect the overall look of the panel and equally one very strong image will also attract attention and beg the question "why are they not all this good?"
The old saying "The whole should be greater than the sum of the parts" still rings true
